Roomy and Light, Yet Cozy and Warm?

Hostess Yanan Haring has used her interior decorating talents to achieve what seems to be a paradox: China Doll Country seems at once small and large.

This is most evident in the Unit 2 living room, where there is obviously plenty of open floorspace, and sunlight streams in through the sheer curtains, and yet there is a calming, soothing warmth to the surroundings. Perhaps this feeling is generated by the carefully-planned use of red on the walls and as accents in the rugs and wall hangings.

The furnishings also have a paradoxical quality of "luxurious economy." Though simple and functional in shape, the wooden futon, tables, and chairs were clearly fashioned by people who care about quality. This unpretentious commitment to quality over glitz is the essence of rustic Chinese decor, and we've done our best to recreate it here.

In addition to your private living area, the outdoor common areas are for you to share as well. The deck is peppered with fun and interesting crafts that entertain your eyes as your body sinks into hammock-like, wood-and-cloth chairs. Below, the brick patio offers a nice place to dine or just listen to the sounds of the city.
